Plex: Stream Movies & TV App Reviews

Not too shabby

I thoroughly enjoy how easy this app is to use. Being a graphic designer, I can appreciate the features, with clear sections and buttons that make the app easy to navigate around. With the age of technology we now live in, pushing information between your tablet or device seems like an afterthought. You can use the Plex service for free on your desktop, however the app feature requires a one-time upgrade cost of $4.99 (This is worth it because while your computer is good for organizing/archiving, no one wants to sit at their desk to enjoy their media). After syncing my home library, Im able to watch everything on my AppleTV or smart device. Just like your cellphone, the Plex platform was improved recently with the ability to download the app for use on the new generation AppleTV. It took me a while to figure out the platform, but updating my Server library can be done automatically or by intervals of every few minutes. Very user friendly!

Plex is the best

I use this app every day. If you dont know what it does you should find out

Solid iOS client

Really high quality iOS and mobile client to plex servers. Keep up the good work!

Not Perfect yet but best in Class love it

I have been very pleased with this app. Especially since it works with the new Apple TV. Great to have all my media on all my devices.

Plex is amazing!

If you want a media server to store and stream all your media, plex is hands down your best option.

Awesome

I never write reviews, but Plex is just too awesome. Get it! Got it! Good!

Has gotten much better.

Really love this app dont like that I have to pay monthly to use all the features, but so far its been worth it.

The Best!

I am sitting in a hotel room in San Francisco watching a TV series on my home computer in Houston. This is the first time I have done so. PLEX is wonderful at home, particularly for my disabled wife. It is an essential conduit between the home office computer and the living room TV. Too many streaming problems with Roku 2 fixed with the more powerful Amazon Fire TV. I LOVE PLEX!!!

Looks pretty but not reliable

Im looking for an app to make my media truly mobile and accessible from anywhere. PLEX is decent at establishing a home server, although with some bugs. The mobile "cloud synch" is challenging. Uploads to a cloud server of your choice take a very long time, require an unnecessary conversion process, and once uploaded adjustments made any change to the file once uploaded makes it invisible to PLEX. Uploads thru the PLEX process take about 4x longer than simply adding the file directly to your cloud server of choice. At it sometimes fails. The PLEX interface is beautiful, but the cloud synch option isnt reliable. Plus, the Apple TV app do ant like to your cloud server at all. Check out "Its Playing Pro", which is an alternative app that plays files DIRECTLY loaded onto and DIRECTLY off Dropbox. The quality of play is great and it doesnt care if your move, rename, or adjust the files. Plus because it plays files directly uploaded to Dropbox, this allows you to populate your cloud library directly without conversion and syncing (literally 4x faster). If PLEX could take its beautiful interface and do what this app does, it would be the perfect app. It will be watching for that, but until then I will go with the less pretty, but much more efficient and reliable option.

Plex rules the media handling roost!

After reading much of the less than stellar reviews, it has become apparent me that some of the reviewers clearly have not delved into the support forums to resolve their issues. I have an ever-growing library of way over 5000 movies and over 28000 tv episodes being streamed from my older mac mini to multiple devices simultaneously and find the experience quite satisfying for both the content management and the streaming results. With adequate bandwidth (outbound) and proper naming in your files, Plex is a true master of media streaming!

An integral part of any home media system

In conjunction with plex media server, this. App is an essential part of any home media system.

It works

To me, high praise is when something works as advertised. Plex works as advertised.

Simply THE BEST

For the layman - what is Plex? Plex is the simplest most reliable system out there that lets you create your own services SIMILAR to: 1. Spotify/Apple Music 2. Onedrive 3. Netflix/Amazon Video Fundamentally, a big problem that software is constantly trying to solve is - how only use the same single source of data? That way, whenever that data changes - it changes everywhere that you access it. That may sound trivial, but its not. Its actually a rather complicated problem and STREAMING has helped everyone overcome that issue (for the most part). However, streaming has its own downsides including the fact that whenever you subscribe to a service how can you control the content? You cant load your home movies onto Netflix or Amazon. Thats where Plex comes in clutch! I have been using Plex for close to a year now. Its fantastic for making your media accessible on mobile, tablets, smart tvs... It does have a couple of hiccups that I run into every now and then like: 1. Streaming away from home is shotty AT TIMES, but this is rare. Its heavily reliant on the home servers upload speed and of course the download speed of the client device. I think that they could have some smarter buffering in place to address this. 2. Some less popular apps (like the Visio smart tv app) dont store my login between one session and another forcing me to sign in again. The sign in process is really simple, so thats not that big of a deal. But thats it. Im super critical of technology in general and constantly finding flaws in almost everything I use. The overall quality of the system is a step above almost everything else. At this point Plex is one of the most basic apps that you need to have. Its a step above everything else in its class in regards to quality and user experience. Their website is good. The forums are great. They are constantly making their product better. As far as Im concerned its one of the basic apps you have to have for productivity, entertainment, sharing, etc. Just get it.

Initially, I didnt like Plex, but . . .

I already had Infuse 4 and initially, I didnt like Plex in part due to its need of server software so I couldnt use my Apple Time Capsule. However Plex tends to shine in ways that Infuse cant , in particular the Apple TV version. And you can still play video while using other apps on my iPad.

Best idea ever!!!

Ive always wanted to be able to watch my own content, anywhere I wanted, for FREE!!! Why should I pay to make that happen? Im already paying for cellular service. Why pay again for viewing my personal movies and videos? How can I do this, simply and without hassle... PLEX is the answer!!! This app is so awesome. It gives me access to all of my movies, pictures, videos and even music, from anywhere in the world. They are always debugging their software, so you can rest assure, if there is an issue, itll be handled soon. It even downloads metadata from the Internet for a flawless interface and a more professional feel to your content. You cant go wrong with this app. Thank you PLEX!!!

Love Plex

Plex is amazing. Wish they had an Amazon Echo app too.
